Leprosy Relief Canada is a politically and denomination independent Canadian NGO. Established in 1961 to support Canadian nurses working with leprosy patients in India, Leprosy Relief still wishes today to be the bridge between people suffering from leprosy and Canadian donors.
The mission of Leprosy Relief is twofold: to fight diseases of poverty (leprosy and tuberculosis) and to raise the Canadian people’s awareness of the issue.
Established to fight leprosy, Leprosy Relief extended its scope of action to include the fight against tuberculosis. This of course does not mean it has forgotten about leprosy, the main goal!
Leprosy Relief works to restore health, hope and dignity to people affected by leprosy or tuberculosis. Over the years, the work has gone from assisting small initiatives to supporting larger programs in partnership with other members from ILEP, the International Federation of Anti-Leprosy Organizations.
Leprosy Relief Canada provides:
• education and detection campaigns to achieve early diagnosis,
• medical treatment and all needed care,
• social and economic rehabilitation programs
